Abstract
Since Lactobacillus iners has a comparatively small genome, some properties like other lactobacilli cannot be expressed. This bacterium can, however, bind vigourously to the surface of the uroepithelium and can fight against competitors. Hence, L. iners is the predominant representative in the female urobiome. It protects the urinary bladder against uropathogenic bacteria. In principle this local flora is menaced by certain antibiotics.
