From POCT management to PointS-of-CareoLogist

Abstract

This article describes how biomedical laboratory professionals (BMLPs) can apply their expertise in biomedical science to coordinate high-quality point-of-care testing (POCT). The text defines POCT based on the REASSURED criteria and broadens the concept to include patient self-testing, creating Self- and Point-of-Care- Testing (SPOCT) and opening up new collaboration opportunities for BMLPs. Building on this expanded scope, the authors propose the title PointS-of-CareoLogist to describe this role and invite interested parties to contribute to its development.
